About me
My passion for horses started when I was about 5 years old, where we used to drive by open fields where horses were kept. I remember watching my first foal being born and knowing that I would work with horses. At the age of 9, we moved overseas where I joined the local horse riding club. I was fortunate enough to have an official Belgian dressage instructor and a Belgian jockey instructor for show-jumping.
My parents bought me my first horse when I was 10. She was a 4 year-old bay mare who had only just been broken in. She had a lovely temperament, but being so young she was also very playful and would never miss an opportunity to try to buck me off. A few years later, I moved to France for about 6 months where I continued with my dressage training and had my first experience riding 17hh horses.
From there, my journey brought me back to Australia for a few more years, where I started my training with a farrier at a local pony club in Victoria. I became involved with the running of the pony club, as the manager took me on as her "protégé". By that stage, we could no longer afford to own a horse or compete, so the manager agreed to take me on as her own stable hand. I gladly tagged along to all her week-end competitions where I was able to prepare her horse (at 3am) and warm him up before her rides.
I then moved back overseas where I spent the next 18 years. During that time I developed a tendency to “adopt” neglected horses, give them some much needed TLC, some retraining and then pass them on to new owners who would care for them properly. At one stage I ended up with 12 horses, 4 of which just suddenly appeared one evening tied to my fence-line as the people who owned them no longer wanted the responsibility.
My mission to search for alternative health therapies for my own horses led me to meet a most wonderful animal naturopath. Working alongside her, we explored the benefits of various massage therapies on difficult and neglected horses. The results we achieved surpassed our expectations, assisting not only with physical ailments, but also improving behavioural and emotional issues. My passion for massage and other alternative therapies was born.
I studied Biomedical Science at The University of New England in Armidale, NSW and went on to qualify as an Equine Body Worker® through Equinology Inc. in the USA. I have attended a number of workshops on animal communication with renowned author and communicator Martha Williams and am currently studying equine shiatsu and equine acupuncture through the Queensland College of Oriental Medicine. As with any professional service, I am fully insured and hold professional memberships with the International Institute of Complimentary Therapists and the International Equine Body Worker’s Association.
I look forward to speaking with you soon!
