Equine massage
As an Equine Body Worker® I am qualified in sports massage therapy to work soft tissues individually and in groups to release any blockages that may be preventing the efficient use of particular muscles.Massage techniques:
- trigger point therapy
- acupressure points
- cross-fibre mobilization
- deep pressure
- myofascial release
When I assess a horse, not only do I identify particular areas of soft tissue that are not functioning to the best of their ability, but I also take into consideration the whole horse. This means looking at feed, age, housing, teeth, hooves, grooming, tack, worming, general health, medication they may be on and emotional responses. The combined effect of all these aspects of a horse’s life will help me better understand certain muscular responses.
The techniques I use include trigger point therapy and acupressure points, cross-fibre mobilization, deep pressure and myofascial release along with some elements of shiatsu.
It is extremely important to understand that my work is not a substitute for Veterinary care, and that in some instances I may request Veterinary clearance if I suspect that there are any underlying medical conditions that may not suit a massage. Massage can stimulate the flow of fluids, encourage cell growth, release hormones and mobilize tissues of the body, which in normal circumstances are highly desirable. In circumstances where a body's immune system has been compromised however, it is very important to ensure that any modality that is being used will do no harm.
